about a week ago I noticed Kage's right eye looked like he was squinting alot.  When i looked in it, it looked fine, it wasn't red, or runny, he was just squinting.  Being that he had just come out of the litter box I figured, maybe the smell from his own butt offended him...no supprise it makes everyone else's eyes water.  I was in a hurry as usual going from one job to the next so i fed the kids then left.  2 days later I noticed that his eye was runny, not red still but runny with a clear discharge.  I called a vet, they told me just to keep an eye on it, it didnt' sound like anything serious.  I washed his eye area with a warm damp cloth, and he looked fine the rest of the night.  No change for the next few days, I just keep washing it, I called the vet again, they said, go ahead and make a regular appointment, but it sounds like its not serious.  Fast forward to last night... I come home from work pick up crystal and give her a huge hug, and I notice that Kage is not on top the refriderator like normal.  I go hunting for him, he is asleep in my bedroom in a laundry basket...the same one he was in that morning when i left for work, he woke up and his eye looked glued shut, so I go get a warm damp cloth, and wash the area around his eye. He is purring the whole time, I get his eye cleaned up and it opens and the whole socket is swollen and red and horrible looking.  I start panicing, so I grab the phone book and start looking for a vet still open at 7:30 pm.  I finally find one that is not on the East side and call them, crying like a little girl.  They tell me to bring him right in.  I load him up in crystal's carrier, since Scott decided it was ok for him to take the smaller one.  Put him in the car and fly to the animal hospital.  We get there, they check him in, and find out that he somehow scratched his cornea, it had started to heal, then somehow got infected, and the cornea had ulcered.  Emergency vet Visit $72, Eye Drops $15, eye salve $15, orally administered pain killer $14, clavamox $20, not having to have my baby's eye removed...priceless.   Of course now every 12 hours I get to remind him why he hates me this week, but only 14 hours after the vet visit, I can see a HUGE difference.... and he got up and wanted to play, but he won't play with me, as he is very pissed off that i keep putting stuff in his eye, He has to wear a silly blue vet collar, and i keep forcing syringes of icky tasting stuff down his throat... o well ill pick up some special treats on the way home tonight... maybe he will forgive me then
