Around the age of 13 or so, I began noticing really odd noises in the hallway outside of my room after everyone had gone to bed. I'm an only child and have this end of the house to myself, and the floors are carpeted, but almost every night, I would hear what sounded like someone walking down the hallway. It was like pressure was being applied to the floor just enough to make it almost creak, like someone stepped through there kind of quickly to go to the bathroom, or to the other bedroom down the hall, but upon inspection, I'd find that the house was silent and nobody was in my hallway.
This continued to happen for a while, and I sort of stopped paying attention to it. I chalked it up to the house settling or my imagination running wild. After a few more weeks, I was sitting in the floor of my room with my door open, looking through some things for school, and I heard that same noise again, but this time something told me I needed to look up and into the hallway. When I did, I saw a man in dark pants and a white shirt pacing up and down my hallway very slowly. To begin with, I only saw his back, then he turned around and I caught a glimpse of his face, and he then disappeared. The strange thing was, I wasn't frightened by this at all...It was more of a comforting feeling. I knew the face seemed familiar to me, but didn't figure out why until later on. I kept my mouth shut about the event, namely because I felt as though my parents and friends would think I was crazy.
A few days later, my mother and I went to my grandmother's house and almost instantly, I realized where I'd seen that man before. I looked at her mantle and saw a picture of her and my grandfather, who passed away when my mother was 17, long before I was born, and realized he was the exact same person I'd seen in my hallway. I still kept my mouth shut about it and went on with the comforting realization that he'd just wanted to check on his granddaughter. Which, as odd as it seems, was a comforting feeling.
Later on, probably months later, a friend of mine was spending the night with me and we were sitting in the floor, talking, and she suddenly looks really startled and asked me if one of my parents was in the hallway going to the other room...I told her I didn't think so because they'd long since gone to bed. She looked at me with wide eyes and told me she'd just seen a man walking down the hallway. It was at that momen that I knew what I'd been seeing was real...and that I wasn't crazy.
